Welcome to The Green and White Website
The first term of the year 2017 is almost over and the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol playing season is in full swing throughout Limerick city and county. ‘In full swing’ is the appropriate description as Indoor Hurling and Camogie blitzes have been running since early February. The sound of ash on leather resounds through the air as school teams, for both boys and girls, prepare for the INTO Mini Sevens and the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol leagues.
In this issue, we meet Limerick hurling manager John Kiely and find out what his hopes are for the season ahead. Limerick hurlers lost their first league match of the year to Wexford but there is a long season ahead with a lot of twists in the road. John tells us about the ‘team behind the team’ as every detail is covered in the quest to restore Limerick hurling to the top table. In our next issue we will be talking to Limerick football manager, Billy Lee.
We also look back at the football competitions of Autumn 2016. Limerick City bridged a six year gap to win the Larkin Shield while West Limerick regained the Sarsfield Cup. St Mary’s NS from Abbeyfeale are County Shield winners in boys football while St Nessan’s NS from Mungret won the Celtic Image Shield. What lies ahead for those schools when the hurling season reaches a climax? Dreams will come true for some or be shattered for others. The Mission Statement of Allianz Cumann na mBunscol is ‘to make Gaelic Games the games of choice of children in primary school’ and that is more important than winning or losing. Sport enables you to live a healthy lifestyle, make lifelong friendships, challenge yourself to be the best you can and, most importantly, ENJOY YOURSELF!
Cumann na mBunscol is the nursery where young talent is nurtured and encouraged. The intercounty stars of 2017 were the Primary Game and Mackey Cup players of 2007. Our competitions over the months ahead will see more young talent emerge as boys and girls set out on the road to sporting glory.
